We’ve heard a lot about Long Lake Village and Long Lake Provincial Park. We’ve talked about how great these places are for people to live, play and explore. But neighborhoods and parks aren’t only awesome for people; they’re also perfect for our four legged friends. This time on the blog, we’re going to find out what it’s like for dogs and dog owners, to live in Long Lake.

As we know, one of the coolest things about living in Long Lake Village is having a 5000 acre provincial park at your doorstep. The park is complete with forests, lakes and miles of walking trails to explore. And if you were a dog, that would probably be the coolest thing about living in Long Lake Village for you too! On any given day, you can find all kinds dogs out for a walk along the Lakeview trail in other parts of the park.

The Lakeview trail section of the park is a “Dogs on Leash” section. But if you roam a little further into the park, dogs are often let off the leash to explore freely through the trees and along the lakeshore. For those who worry about their dog getting dirty and making a mess in the back seat on the ride home, fear not. The park is so close to Long Lake Village that there’s really no need to get in the car at all. Pups can be hosed down after a long day at play with the outdoor taps and hoses equipped on homes in the neighborhood.

For those who want to take their furry friend exploring a little further afoot, the historic Sanford Fleming Park and Dingle Tower are only minutes away. The York Redoubt Historic Site in Ferguson’s Cove is also only a short drive from Long Lake Village. And for dogs, local favourite Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park is just as cool in the fall as it is in the summer.

In Long Lake Village, nothing is too far away, Prim and Pupper Pet Grooming, Duke’s Place Dog Grooming, and several others are less than 10 minutes away from home. Jollytails and several other dog lodging locations offer great places for pets to stay while you’re away. And of course, Halifax is home to some of the leading medical centres for animals in all of Eastern Canada.

In Long Lake Village, dogs are cared for from nose to tail. And though we can’t ask them ourselves, we’re pretty sure if we did, dogs would tell us they love Long Lake just as much as people.
