As we welcome 2019 and think about all of the things that are in store for this new year, we can’t help but take a minute to reflect on how far we have come. The end of 2018 marks the first full year of the Long Lake Village Blog. As such, it seems like a good time to stop and look back over a full year of progress in our growing community.

Last year, the two final streets of the development were completed, and home construction has now started on both. Several newcomers joined the group of elite home builders that are helping shape the neighborhood for years to come.

An entire year of community gatherings and events has come and gone, all of which helped bring together the neighborhood, and people from all over the Armdale and Spryfield areas. The more established phases of Long Lake Village are coming along quickly; Hadley Crescent is only a small handful of homes away from being finished (photo 1). And finally, with the addition of some new amenities, the park has come into its own as a focal point for an entire region of the city to come together for recreation and leisure.

A year of progress has transformed Long Lake Village into a more complete and dynamic community. In 2018, both Grenoble Court and Darjeeling Drive were finished and made ready for home construction. The two streets on the hill look out over kilometres of coastal terrain and the entry of the Halifax Harbour. Already, they are home to some of the most modern, contemporary new homes being built in Halifax. Furthermore, each street now features its own pocket park; a built-in green space for homeowners to use and enjoy.

2018 saw the addition of FH Development Group and Bosphorus Home Construction to the group of skilled and experienced home builders currently shaping the village. Both bring something new and unique to the table. (For more on that, I’ll refer you to our September 2018 edition of the blog that features more in depth info on both of the aforementioned builders).

Another year of events has come and gone in the Armdale region. Throughout 2018, Long Lake Park played host to a pair of family run events. However, by far the biggest event to take place in the area was the summer celebration called Spryfield Days. This occasion spanned an entire weekend and included dozens of community events taking place in Long Lake Provincial Park and all over the Spryfield area. Family runs, duct tape boat races, pop up theme parks, fireworks displays – all of the above took place over a beautiful late July weekend! (photo 2)

This past summer also marked the inaugural season of the Long Lake Adventure Company, a seasonal paddleboard and kayak rental outfit located on the shores of Long Lake. From now on, anybody can head over and rent a paddleboard for the afternoon to take off and explore the lake! So in summary, 2018 was a busy year in and around Long lake Village. So many things happened, and a high bar was set for the year to come. But all the hard working community members, professionals and volunteers that made 2018 so great are up to the challenge and ready to make this new year even more special.
