The importance of a home can’t be overstated. Our homes keep us safe. They keep us warm and dry. They give us a place to relax, unwind and get away from the world. However, one could argue that our homes are especially vital during the holiday season. Kitchens fill with festive food and the smell of Christmas diner. Living rooms are illuminated by the warm glow of fire places and transformed with Christmas trees and holiday ornaments. Dining rooms fill with family from near and far and people gather in dens to watch classic Christmas and Holiday movies. This time around, the Long Lake Village blog will explore the importance of the home during the Holiday Season!

For some, Christmas time walks and hikes are a big part of the Holiday Season. But as we know, you don’t have to live in the middle of nowhere to have some world class hiking at your doorstep (photo 1). The Holidays are a perfect time to explore what is further afoot and take in some of the hundreds of amazing hikes scattered throughout the province. But for those who don’t have time, Long Lake Provincial Park brings the wilderness and adventure of these hikes right to the doorstep.

Grabbing boots, snowshoes or cross-country skis and exploring the expansive 5000 acre park is all part of the Long Lake Village experience (photo 2). But December is also a time to get lost in the great indoors. After a long day of exploring (or maybe some Christmas shopping) everyone needs some time to chill out. What better way to relax and warm up than on the couch, sitting in front a roaring fire, watching the sun set behind falling snowflakes through the living room windows with friends and family — that’s what this month is all about (photo 3).

December is the month when the year 2018 comes to an end and the Holiday and Christmas seasons ramp up. It’s a time to be thankful and appreciative for all that we have in life and reflect on the highs and lows of another year gone by. It also marks the first full year of the Long Lake Village blog. So with that in mind, wherever you find yourself, or whatever your plans are this December, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
