10 minutes from Downtown can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. This is particularly true in a dynamic and growing city like Halifax. In some ways, you could say the bedroom community of Fall River is 10 minutes from Halifax. Sure, if you hop on the highway 102 at the right time of day, and you don’t count the time it takes to get out of your subdivision and get to the highway. Maybe you count yourself as being downtown when you cross onto the peninsula… Forget the time it takes to get up Bayer’s Road and over to the downtown core. We don’t mean to pick on Fall River here, or any of the other Halifax bedroom communities, (Fall River is great). The point is, when we say Long Lake Village is 10 minutes from Downtown Halifax, that’s exactly what we mean.
Let’s use the landmark of Citadel Hill as a starting point and work our way backwards from there to Darjeeling Drive in Long Lake Village.
From here, the directions are actually very straightforward. The best way to get there is to take Bell Road to the Willowtree intersection where it meets Quinpool and Robie Streets. After that, it’s a straight drive all the way down Quinpool to the roundabout. From there, the path to Long Lake leads through Armdale along the Herring Cove Road. The last step is a right turn on Cowie Hill Road. This same street leads directly to the border of Long Lake Village and the turn onto Darjeeling Drive.
This drive can be made easily in 10 minutes, in either direction. Now of course, this number will grow during peak traffic times. The same can be said for all neighborhoods outside the peninsula, Clayton Park, Fairmount, Timberlea… But until we invent flying cars, all travel times will expand during rush hour.
“Close knit and close to it all” is another sentence used to describe the community of Long Lake Village. According to Google Maps, Long Lake Village is less than 10 minutes away from all of the following amenities, The Canada Games Centre, Bayers Lake, Sir Sandford Fleming Park, Halifax Shopping Centre, Long Lake Provincial Park (…that one is really close), Chocolate Lake Beach, and pretty much everything else on the entire Halifax peninsula because… It’s 10 minutes from Downtown.
In summary, here’s a capture from the front page of the website that shows just how close Long Lake Park really is to Downtown Halifax!
